Fun, friendship and competitive polo at Toronto Polo Club

The latest stop on the Standing Rock World Tour saw Philipp visit Toronto Polo Club, Canada, to play a friendly game between Standing Rock Black and Standing Rock White teams.

The game saw Standing Rock Black - Evan White Jr, Fernando Massalin, Luke Sifton and Philipp Müller - take on Standing Rock White - Mich Ward, Scott Weir, Morgan Jenkin, Ali McDonald - in a fun yet competitive game at the start of the season.

Cliff Sifton and Philipp

Off the field, Philipp was welcomed to dinner at the Magna Golf Club, with the most generous and warm hospitality from the club’s owner Cliff Sifton - who has been president of the club for over 30 years. The dinner even included a personalised menu for Philipp!

Founded in the 1960s by Col. Michael C. Sifton - Cliff’s father - Toronto Polo Club has six outdoor tournament fields and two outdoor arenas across three facilities and around 75 active members. Plus a fully covered arena was built in 1967 to enable polo to be played all year round. The club aims to have a cross section of the membership represented, with all levels of players - men and women - as well as young players from high school and university.

Sportsmanship, good horsemanship and safe fun polo is integral to the club, which has had success at various levels and produced some very good professional and amateur male and female players over the years.

The club runs a large charity event every year called Polo for Heart, which is currently in its 46th year. The event started in 1969 and continues to this day to be the highlight of the Toronto Polo Club summer season and has raised over $6 million dollars for heart and stroke related charities. The club also holds Polo for the Cure to benefit Breast cancer research annually.

Canada has had good success at the FIP World Cup 14-goal level and Toronto has won the USPA National Interscholastics (high school level) multiple times beginning in 1977, as well as the USPA National Intercollegiates (University level) in 1980.

Outside of polo, no trip to Canada is complete without a visit to the spectacular Niagara Falls, a truly breathtaking experience.
